The Cabinet of Ministers plans to continue construction of new units at the Khmelnytskyi NPP.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this at the "hour of questions to government" in the Verkhovna Rada, which was broadcast by Oleksii Honcharenko, MP from the European Solidarity faction, on his Youtube channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"Most of our (nuclear) units - nine, which are currently under the control of Ukraine, have a 30-year service life, they continue to be under the control of the IAEA. But we need to build new units, and the construction of Khmelnytskyi third and fourth units is one of the important elements of Ukraine's energy sustainability, so that people have light," he said.
According to Shmyhal, the design documentation and part of the work on the new units have already been completed.
Shmyhal is convinced that Ukraine needs to restore its energy resources, which were damaged by the russians, in renewable sources in nuclear generation.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in April 2024, the construction of two new power units began at the Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plant (Netishyn, Khmelnytskyi Region).
The bill on the construction of the Khmelnytskyi NPP was criticized by: the Anti-Corruption Committee, nuclear experts, and the head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine.
