Donald Trump Jr. plans to visit Greenland after US President-elect's claims that the US would take control of the autonomous Danish territory.

This is reported by the BBC.

Thus, American media reports that the son of the US President-elect plans to record videos for a podcast during a one-day private visit.

At the same time, Donald Trump confirmed his son's trip on the social platform Truth Social on Monday. He said that Trump Jr. and "various representatives" would go to Greenland "to visit some of the most wonderful areas and attractions."

Trump added that Greenland and its people "would benefit tremendously if and when it becomes part of our country."

"We will protect it and cherish it from a very cruel outside world. Let's make Greenland great again!" he said.

The US President-elect's post also included a video in which an unnamed Greenlander wearing a red "Make America Great Again" cap urges Trump to buy Greenland and free it from "colonization" by Denmark. The man in the video has not been identified.

The Danish Foreign Ministry clarified that Trump's son will not travel to Greenland on behalf of his father's new administration.

The head of the Greenland Foreign Ministry told Bloomberg News that the delegation arrived in the capital, Nuuk, on Monday, and Trump Jr. himself will land on Tuesday, January 7.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on December 23, Trump said that possession and control of the huge island is an "absolute necessity" for the United States.

The Danish government announced a significant increase in defense spending for Greenland a few hours after US President-elect Donald Trump reiterated his desire to establish control over the Arctic territory.
