Term for voluntary return from unauthorized abandonment of unit may be extended – Vereshchuk

The idea of extending the term for voluntary return to service of military personnel after an unauthorized abandonment of a unit is currently being discussed.

Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Iryna Vereshchuk reported this on her Telegram channel.

"On January 1, 2025, the term for voluntary return to service from an unauthorized abandonment of a unit expired. The idea is to extend this term (for how much exactly is a subject of discussion). So, this is just an idea for now, but we have already started discussing it with the defense committee of the Verkhovna Rada," she wrote.

According to Vereshchuk, for the return of military personnel from an unauthorized abandonment of a unit, it is planned to "more actively involve recruiters from successful combat units."

"If someone manages to successfully return a soldier to service, then we need to give people work and support them in every way," the Deputy Head of the President's Office emphasized.

Recall that Zelenskyy believes that the number of cases of an unauthorized abandonment of a unit in 2024 increased due to the fact that people are tired of the long war.

Journalist Yurii Butusov also said that 1,700 servicemen from the 155th separate mechanized brigade named after Anne of Kyiv voluntarily left the service.
