Zelenskyy explains why number of deserters in army increased last year

The number of cases of desertion of a unit increased in 2024 due to the fact that people are tired of the long war.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in an interview with TSN.

He noted that the cases of desertion increased in 2024, but since October or September it has decreased.

"This is a fact. A long war is a long war. People stand and people get tired. They get tired everywhere. The question is the percentage of tired people from the entire army," he emphasized.

Such fatigue, according to him, can be overcome with the help of rotations, which, unfortunately, were not enough.

"[There are] not so many rotations, because not everything arrived [from military assistance from Western partners] to staff the reserves," he explained.

As a reminder, journalist Butusov reported that 1,700 servicemen from the 155th separate mechanized brigade named after Anna of Kyiv voluntarily left the service. The State Bureau of Investigation is studying the facts presented.

In addition, only 1.3% of cases of desertion of Ukrainian military personnel reach court.
