The Verkhovna Rada is currently not considering initiatives to lower the mobilization age.
This was stated on the air of Ukrainian Radio by MP, member of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence Fedir Venislavskyi.
"Currently, in the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, as well as in the Verkhovna Rada in general, there are no bills that would provide for lowering the mobilization age below 25 years," he said.
The MP noted that only certain categories of citizens under the age of 25 who have already completed military training or compulsory service can be mobilized. Other citizens of this age are involved exclusively on a voluntary basis.
"But this is an exceptional category of Ukrainian citizens. All the rest can be mobilized by voluntary consent. And there are cases when contracts are concluded by Ukrainian citizens who are 18, 20 years old, etc. Therefore, there are no initiatives at the political level or at the formalized level, meaning legislative initiatives in parliament, on this issue today. The probability of such legislative initiatives in the future is very low," Venislavskyi added.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on December 5, the former head of US forces in Europe, retired Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, called the draft age in Ukraine "too high."
On December 8, a member of the Verkhovna Rada's National Security Committee, Fedir Venislavskyi, said that there are no legislative initiatives in the Verkhovna Rada to lower the mobilization age.
On December 10, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for giving maturity to existing brigades and not compensating for the lack of equipment with the youth of soldiers.
