On December 26, at the age of 47, after a serious illness, prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SACPO) Vitalii Ponomarenko died.
The SACPO announced this on its Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
The prosecutor is known for conducting a number of high-profile investigations, and he also closed the case using the Rotterdam+ formula three times.
"With deep sadness, we announce that on December 26, 2024, after a serious illness, at the age of 47, Ponomarenko Vitalii Pavlovych, prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, passed away. Vitalii Pavlovych had a beloved wife and two daughters," the SACPO statement said.
The team of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office expressed condolences to his family and friends in connection with the irreparable loss.
"We share your grief, we mourn with you. May the Lord grant eternal peace to his soul. Eternal memory!” the post says.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the prosecutor of the SACPO admitted that the results of the examination regarding Rotterdam+ were hidden from the court.
The head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office Oleksandr Klymenko decided to cancel the resolution on the closure of the so-called Rotterdam+ case as illegal and unfounded.
