The investigation of the National Police named the main motive for the murder of linguist and professor of Lviv Polytechnic Iryna Farion.
This was reported to the Ukrainian News Agency by the investigation.
According to the investigation, the suspect in the murder of Farion, Vyacheslav Zinchenko, had a personal dislike for the professor because of her active position in protecting the Ukrainian language and culture, since he believed that the linguist was splitting national unity.
As investigators established, in 2022, Zinchenko became a member of an online community that promotes the cult of violence and cruelty, as well as racial, national and religious intolerance and discrimination.
In 2024, he joined another group associated with a russian neo-Nazi organization.
Zinchenko is charged with the intentional murder of Farion in connection with her performance of public duty for reasons of national intolerance, as well as illegal handling of weapons.
He faces life imprisonment.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Zinchenko's case was transferred to court with a new qualification of the crime. In the summer, Vyacheslav Zinchenko, suspected of the murder of professor and linguist Iryna Farion, was transferred to another detention center for his personal protection.
On July 19, at about 7:30 p.m., an unknown man shot Farion with a firearm in Lviv; Farion died in the hospital that same evening.
