Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who was flying to aggressor country of russia to participate in the informal Summit of Heads of State of the CIS member states in St. Petersburg, instructed to immediately turn his plane away after he was informed about the crash of an Embraer 190 in Kazakhstan.
This was reported by the Azerbaijani state news agency Azertaс.
The publication writes that Aliyev was informed about the plane crash while he was in russian airspace. After that, the Azerbaijani President instructed to immediately turn away. Immediately after the plane landed at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, he held a meeting.
"This morning I was flying from Baku to St. Petersburg to participate in the CIS summit when I was informed about this accident, this tragedy. I immediately gave an instruction, and the plane returned to Baku. While still in the air, I gave the appropriate instructions, talked with the Prime Minister, and a commission was created under his leadership. At the same time, a delegation of Azerbaijani representatives was sent to the city of Aktau, where the accident occurred," Aliyev said.
The commission will investigate the causes of the plane crash and inform the President of Azerbaijan of its findings. Aliyev said that it is too early to talk about what led to the plane crash: "The moments of the plane crash are in the media and social networks. Therefore, everyone can see it." In addition, the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan has opened a criminal case.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on December 25, an Azerbaijan Airlines plane crashed near the Kazakh city of Aktau.
As the media later reported, holes were found on the plane's skin, very similar to traces of the striking elements of an anti-aircraft missile.
