Ukraine receives over 600 cars confiscated from drunk drivers from Latvia in 2024

Since the beginning of this year, Latvia has transferred to Ukraine 612 cars that were confiscated from drivers caught driving while intoxicated.

Delfi reported this with reference to the State Revenue Service of Latvia.

According to information published the day before by the service, a total of 612 cars have been transferred to Ukraine since the beginning of the year. Their total value is estimated at EUR 2.2 million.

The government of the country approved the transfer of cars on February 16, 2023 by introducing amendments to the Law on Support for the Ukrainian Civilian Population.

The amendments allow the transfer of cars that have become state property to Ukraine. This also includes cars confiscated from drunk drivers.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, at the end of October, the Latvian authorities blocked 17 Internet portals that were engaged in the dissemination of russian propaganda.

Recall that in September of this year, Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa announced a new package of military assistance for Ukraine during her visit to Kyiv.

We also reported that in August, Latvia prepared the largest batch of drones for Ukraine.
