The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has provided Ukrzaliznytsia JSC with a loan of EUR 180 million to install small generators at sites across the country to address the shortage and large-scale power outages expected in Ukraine this winter due to russian shelling of its power generation facilities.
The company has said this in a statement, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"The loan funds will be used to purchase and install equipment for decentralized small gas generation with a total capacity of up to 270 MW at existing UZ sites across Ukraine. This will help solve the problem of electricity shortages for the needs of the enterprise, as well as ensure uninterrupted power supply for the population and business. The implementation of this project, the total cost of which is EUR 248 million, will also contribute to increasing the stability of the national power system," the statement said.
It is noted that the EBRD loan is accompanied by an investment grant from the United Kingdom in the amount of up to GBP 10 million (EUR 12 million) and an investment grant of up to EUR 56 million from a multilateral or bilateral international donor.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in June, Ukrzaliznytsia announced plans to implement electricity generation projects in various regions of Ukraine.
