EBRD provides Ukrzaliznytsia with EUR 300 million loan for new electric locomotives

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has provided Ukrzaliznytsia with a EUR 300 million loan for new electric locomotives.

This is indicated in the company's statement, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

The statement says that the new EBRD loan is provided under a state guarantee and is accompanied by an investment grant of up to USD 190 million from the United States, administered by the World Bank.

It is noted that the financing will help Ukrzaliznytsia to update its locomotive fleet to ensure stable freight transportation, in particular agricultural exports and critical imports, as well as passenger transportation, which is extremely important for the population, the economy, the functioning of the private sector and humanitarian activities.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in June, a memorandum was signed between Ukrzaliznytsia, the EBRD, and the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development on providing a loan of EUR 300 million for the procurement of electric locomotives.
