Moldova says it has enough gas for heating season

Moldovagaz, the natural gas supply and distribution company in Moldova, said it had completed 100% of the purchase of natural gas volumes needed for the entire heating season from October 2024 to March 2025.

This was reported by Economedia.ro.

The weighted average purchase price of natural gas was EUR 47.88 per MWh, which is approximately EUR 509.15 per 1,000 cubic meters, the publication writes.

"Moldovagaz JSC has completed 100% of the purchase of natural gas volumes needed for the entire heating season from October 2024 to March 2025 for the right bank of the Dniester. The procurement procedure was launched in July of this year and will be successfully completed on December 12, 2025," the material says.

At the same time, it is assumed that the russian company Gazprom will supply unrecognized Transnistria with 5.7 million cubic meters of gas per day, or 171 million cubic meters per month (513 million cubic meters in the first quarter), with a significant part of it being used for electricity consumption throughout the country, since Moldova can produce less than 10% of its electricity needs.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in October, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said that after 2024, Kyiv would not renew the agreement with the russian federation on natural gas transit.

On December 9, the head of unrecognized Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky, signed a decree on the introduction of an economic state of emergency due to the risk of cessation of gas transit from the russian federation through Ukraine.

On December 5, a state of emergency was declared in Moldova in the energy sector.
