In Crimea, the russian occupation administration has announced that starting December 17, they may disconnect mobile internet on the peninsula.
This was reported by the so-called "Ministry of Internal Policy, Information and Communications" of the peninsula.
"To ensure the security of the residents of Crimea, the mobile internet may be disconnected from today," the message says.
The occupiers did not specify what "security" they are talking about.
According to the occupiers, the possible disconnections will only affect mobile internet. Wired internet services will be provided by providers as usual.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in November of this year, the russian portal CNews wrote that the russian authorities were preparing to conduct exercises to disconnect the country from the global Internet. The exercises are allegedly scheduled for December.
As a reminder, on December 13, russia blocked the Viber messenger because it was allegedly used for "extremist" purposes.
We also wrote that in October, russia began blocking the Discord messenger. The russian military, who use it for communication, immediately complained about this.
