AFU speak about laser weapon Trident, capable of shooting down planes

Ukraine has a laser weapon called Trident and capable of shooting down planes at an altitude of more than 2 kilometers.

The commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel Vadym Sukharevskyi, stated this during the conference European Defense Industry: Prospects for Cooperation with the Ukrainian Defense Industry. He emphasized that Ukraine is one of the few countries that has laser weapons, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

"We can state that today Ukraine is, if I am not mistaken, the fifth country that can say that it has a laser. Today, we can shoot down planes with this laser at an altitude of more than 2 km," he said.

According to him, Trident is constantly being improved.

In addition, Sukharevskyi spoke about drones that can launch light strike drones in the air.

"Today we use the so-called "mother" drones, FPV carriers, with a cruising depth of more than 70 km. They carry two FPVs under them and actually act as a repeater and hit deep enemy targets. In my opinion, this is a real breakthrough," the colonel noted.

Recall that in March of this year, the UK Ministry of Defense showed a video of the DragonFire laser-guided weapon system (LDEW) against air targets.

Later, it was noted that the UK is considering the possibility of transferring DragonFire, capable of shooting down enemy drones and missiles, to Ukraine.
