China preparing restrictions on export of drone components, which may also affect Ukraine - media

According to Western officials, China intends to expand export restrictions on components used in the production of drones from the beginning of next year. This may complicate access to them, including for Ukraine. As Bloomberg reports, citing anonymous sources, China has recently reduced the supply of key components to the US and Europe, and from 2025 the restrictions may become stricter.

It is expected that a license will be required for exports, and Chinese manufacturers will have to report to the authorities on supply plans. Such measures are associated with the escalation of the trade conflict between the US and China, which has affected the supply of high-tech chips and semiconductors. This has already led to an increase in the price of some components.

Bloomberg sources report that the restrictions are already having an impact on companies in the US and Europe, so government agencies are actively monitoring the situation. The US government and the Department of Commerce are working with businesses to help find alternative sources of supply.

Although European manufacturers are gradually reducing their dependence on China, it still remains the leading producer of low-cost parts for drones and controls about 80% of the market.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in October, China imposed sanctions on the American company Skydio, a manufacturer of unmanned aerial vehicles, which supplies drones to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, China has banned exports to the United States of goods related to the minerals gallium, germanium and antimony, which have potential military applications.
