Romania annuls presidential election results over russian interference

Romania's Constitutional Court has annulled the first round of the presidential election won by far-right candidate Călin Georgescu after intelligence reports revealed interference from aggressor country of russia, the Associated Press reported on Friday, December 6.

The unprecedented and final ruling by the Constitutional Court came after Romanian President Klaus Iohannis declassified intelligence reports on Wednesday that alleged russia had carried out a massive campaign using thousands of social media accounts to promote Călin Georgescu through platforms such as TikTok and Telegram.

"In light of the intelligence reports, Romania's Constitutional Court has received numerous legal complaints seeking to annul the results of the first round of voting, but it is not yet clear on what grounds it made such a decision," the report said.

Intelligence data was received from the Romanian Intelligence Service, the Foreign Intelligence Service, the Special Telecommunications Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Now Romania will set a new date for the re-conduct of the first round.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on October 17, an aerial object flew 14 km into Romania, the troops raised in the air 2 fighter jets.

On the night of October 24, Romania's radar systems recorded two separate signals, probably from drones that violated the country's airspace.

As a reminder, Romania refused to issue visas to members of the russian delegation to participate in the annual session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), which was held from June 29 to July 3 in Bucharest.
