Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said that peace in Ukraine is possible only in the event of refusal from NATO membership and the loss of some territories.
He said this in an interview with the odious American journalist Tucker Carlson.
In particular, according to him, for peace in Ukraine there should be no NATO, military bases and exercises with the participation of foreign troops. In addition, the West will have to take into account the "realities on the ground" for the "agreement on Ukraine".
Lavrov also voiced another condition desirable for russia.
"Many in russia would like to make the lifting of sanctions a condition for an agreement on Ukraine, but the country has withstood them and become stronger", Lavrov claims.
In addition, he said that the russian federation does not intend to destroy the Ukrainian people, because they are "brothers and sisters of the russian people".
Recall that earlier Lavrov complained that his plane is not refueled even in "friendly countries" due to sanctions.
In early December, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with Kyodo News that the Ukrainian army does not have the strength to liberate the occupied territories by military means.
According to him, diplomatic steps should be sought to return the territories captured by the russians. But this should only begin after Ukraine receives ironclad guarantees that russia will not attack the country again.
Zelenskyy believes that the only ironclad guarantee for Ukraine is membership in the North Atlantic Alliance.
The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andrii Yermak, wrote in a column on the website of the Dagens Industri publication that the ceasefire initiatives proposed by several countries do not contain guarantees for Ukraine.
Yermak also believes that peace can only be achieved by providing Ukraine with a large amount of weapons and inviting Kyiv to NATO. He believes that Ukraine's membership in the alliance would not entail any obligations for its other members.
Meanwhile, two-thirds of Ukrainians want to start negotiations on freezing the war. About half still do not believe that victory in the war should be achieved by reaching the 1991 borders.
Meanwhile, the russian federation has stated that there are no grounds for peace negotiations with Ukraine.
