In Georgia, for the first time in a week, protest action ended without dispersal

In the Georgian capital, Tbilisi, a protest action on Thursday night went without clashes with the police and the dispersal of demonstrators.

This is reported by NewsGeorgia.

However, it was not without detentions. Two people were detained after a verbal altercation with security forces on Chichinadze Street.

At least three demonstrators were transferred to police stations even before the start of the rally, and people with flags who were apparently going to the rally were selectively stopped near the Freedom Square metro station. The police said that they found illegal objects on the detainees.

It is reported that the protesters dispersed closer to 4:00 am after moving to Republic Square.

Large-scale protests began in Georgia on November 28. The reason was the statement of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze. He announced that the authorities had decided not to include the issue of EU accession negotiations on the agenda until the end of 2028 and to refuse all budget grants from the community.

In Tbilisi, rallies were suppressed with water cannons, rubber bullets, tear gas and pepper spray. Over the week, the authorities detained more than 300 people. Most of them were beaten by security forces. Among the injured were more than fifty media workers who covered the protests. The Ministry of Health reported the hospitalization of 134 protesters, 20 journalists and 50 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The police also conducted raids on the offices of opposition parties and apartments of public activists. Civil society and the opposition regard the latest actions of the authorities as the beginning of repression and an attempt at intimidation. Kobakhidze called them "prevention". According to him, the actions were planned in advance.
