Scholz ruling out sending German troops to Ukraine

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has ruled out the possibility of sending German troops to Ukraine at this time.

His words are quoted by the N-tv channel.

Speaking to members of the government, Scholz said that Berlin has no intention of sending its army to Ukraine.

"There is no question of this," the channel quotes him as saying.

Scholz added that the recent statement by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock regarding the deployment of a peacekeeping contingent on the territory of Ukraine is only a diplomatic response to this hypothetical issue.

According to him, Baerbock and the country's Defense Minister Boris Pistorius support him on this issue.

Recall that on December 3, at a meeting of NATO foreign ministers, Baerbock admitted that German troops could be deployed on the territory of Ukraine.

According to her, Germany is ready to support any measures aimed at a ceasefire and the end of the russian-Ukrainian war.

She also said that the presence of the German Armed Forces in Ukraine is possible only after a ceasefire between the warring parties.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on November 25, the French edition of Le Monde wrote, citing an unnamed British official, that Paris and London have resumed discussions on the scenario of sending their armed forces to Ukraine.

Recall, earlier in October this year, the French Minister of the Armed Forces stated that Western countries should begin discussing the deployment of troops in Ukraine after the end of the war.
