Defense Minister Rustem Umerov introduced a new full-time position in the brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - a procurement officer.
Umerov announced this on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"We are reforming the procurement system, so that the army quickly and effectively receives everything necessary to protect the country. I have signed an order that introduces a new full-time position in each brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - a procurement officer for goods, works and services," he said.
According to Umerov, these specialists will be responsible for planning and organizing procurement, preparing tender documentation, analyzing the market, searching for suppliers, selecting and evaluating proposals.
"Thanks to this, the procurement for our units will be carried out quickly, transparently and taking into account the real needs of the soldiers. A separate task is to eliminate the conflict of interest. The new position will allow us to distinguish between the combat duties of the military and the tasks related to procurement," he noted.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in May 2023, the Ministry of Defense announced that defense procurement in Ukraine is moving to the NATO model, in particular, the Cabinet of Ministers designated the Defense Procurement Agency as the state customer service of the Ministry of Defense, which will carry out the procurement of weapons and military equipment for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On November 29, the Cabinet of Ministers agreed with the proposal of the Ministry of Defense to delegate to the Administration of the State Border Guard Service the authority to purchase defense goods worth UAH 23 billion for the needs of the Defense Forces with the subsequent transfer of the goods to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
