The Verkhovna Rada intends to register women, who have completed basic military service, for military service.
249 MPs voted for bill No. 12076 as a basis, with the minimum required 226, Ukrainian News Agency reports this.
According to it, women who are fit for service and have expressed a desire to complete basic military service are registered as conscripts immediately before being sent to complete it.
After completing basic military service, women who are discharged from military service are registered as those liable for military service.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in 2022, the Verkhovna Rada abolished conscription for military service.
The Law on Mobilization introduced basic military service in Ukraine for all men under the age of 25 instead of conscription.
For women, basic military service is voluntary.
The Main Scientific and Expert Directorate of the Verkhovna Rada believed that the basic military service proposed in the law on mobilization practically does not differ in essence from conscription military service.
