Mykhailo Drapatyi has been appointed the new Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and Oleh Apostol has been appointed the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on the Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"We also made several personnel decisions for our army together with the Commander-in-Chief. Mykhailo Drapatyi has been appointed the new Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Oleh Apostol has been appointed the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces," he said.
Zelenskyy noted that Major General Drapatyi successfully organized defense on the Kharkiv axis and thwarted the offensive operation of the russian forces, Colonel Apostol is an experienced commander of the 95th separate airborne assault brigade, both of whom have proven their effectiveness in battles.
"The main task is to significantly increase the combat capability of our army, ensure the quality of training of military personnel, and implement innovative approaches to people management in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Ukrainian army needs internal changes to fully achieve the goals of our state," the President emphasized.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in February 2024, Zelenskyy appointed Lieutenant General Oleksandr Pavliuk as the Commander of the Ground Forces. Pavliuk previously held the position of the First Deputy Minister of Defense.
In February 2024, Drapatyi was appointed the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in May 2024 he became the new Commander of the Kharkiv operational-tactical group of troops, and later headed the Luhansk operational-tactical group of troops.
