Ten servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and 10 employees of the Security Service of Ukraine have completed a week-long course at the Idaho National Laboratory (U.S.) to study and practice methods for collecting evidence of the use of nuclear weapons.
It was reported by the Defense One publication.
The Ukrainian military spent a week at the Idaho National Laboratory, studying and practicing methods for collecting debris for nuclear examination after a detonation.
"Clad in personal protective equipment at locations throughout INL’s Research and Education Campus in Idaho Falls, Ukrainian officials learned proper techniques for sweeping areas, gathering dust and debris, placing it into radiation shielded storage casks called lead “pigs,” and loading the parcels into vehicles for transport," the material says.
The Ukrainian delegation called the training effective and useful. The publication noted that the ability to trace the source of the material used in a nuclear device allows the U.S. to hold accountable any state involved in an act of nuclear terrorism.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the U.S. is ready to expand and modernize its nuclear arsenal to provide deterrence in response to growing challenges.
On November 19, Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said that the decision of the aggressor country russia to change its nuclear doctrine did not surprise U.S. officials.
On November 19, russian dictator vladimir putin approved the updated nuclear doctrine of the russian federation, which allows the use of nuclear weapons against Ukraine.
