Kremenchuk will be flooded in hour if HEPP is destroyed - Civil Defense Department

In the event of the destruction of the Kremenchuk hydroelectric power plant by the russian army, the city could be flooded in less than an hour.

This was reported in an interview with Suspilne by the Department of Civil Defense and Defense Work of the Kremenchuk City Council.

The central and right-bank parts of the city of Kremenchuk, the village of Mala Kokhnivka in the Kremenchuk community, as well as Potoky, Sosnivka and Prydniprianske in the Potoky community fall into the zone of possible catastrophic flooding.

In the event of the dam being destroyed, water could reach the city in 30-45 minutes. This time should be used for evacuation and movement to safe areas.

The Kremenchuk hydroelectric power plant is the second largest in capacity, after Dnipro HEPP, and an energy giant in the Dnieper cascade. It is located in the city of Svitlovodsk and was put into operation in 1959.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the massive missile attack on November 17 did not bypass Kremenchuk, Poltava Region. There is damage to high-rise buildings and casualties.

In addition, the russian federation shelled DTEK thermal power plants, the equipment was seriously damaged.

On the night of November 17, the aggressor country of russia launched a massive combined strike on Ukrainian energy facilities with various types of air-, land- and sea-based missiles, as well as Shahed-type strike drones.
