President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that USD 300 billion of russian assets have been frozen in Europe.
Zelenskyy said this at a press conference after the Summit of the European Political Community in Budapest on Thursday, November 7.
He made this information public in response to a question about what Ukraine will do if U.S. President Donald Trump refuses to support Ukraine.
Zelenskyy recalled that, according to estimates by international institutions, Ukraine suffered destruction from russian attacks worth approximately USD 800 billion. To ensure financing, he suggests that European allies transfer USD 300 billion of frozen russian funds to Ukraine.
"Everyone asks: what will you do if Trump does not support you financially, where will you get weapons, how will you defend yourself? I answer you: can we take USD 300 billion that belongs to us? Let's support our people and buy with this money weapons in all the countries of the world. Can we decide what weapons we need? Can we decide for ourselves what to do with this money? Is it possible that none of the European countries will block this money? Can it be given to us?... Can we simply be handed over the money of Russian murderers and oligarchs, which have already been frozen?" said the head of state.
He called on Europe not to look to the United States in making this decision, because most of the frozen russian assets are located in Europe, and to make "strong decisions" independently. Especially since, according to him, this money will still remain in the EU.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on November 7, the representative of the U.S. Department of State, Matthew Miller, said that the United States will support the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, if he is ready for negotiations with the aggressor country russia.
On November 6, it became known that Donald Trump won the presidential race, becoming the 47th president of the United States.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was one of the first world leaders to congratulate Trump on his election victory.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration plans to urgently send USD 6 billion to Ukraine before Trump's inauguration.
