Calls for a ceasefire without security guarantees are very dangerous rhetoric for Ukraine, since the cessation of hostilities under such conditions will lead to full occupation and the loss of the country's independence and sovereignty.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this during a press conference following his participation in the Summit of the European Political Community in Budapest on Thursday, November 7.
"There is a very dangerous rhetoric. We understand which leaders implement and initiate it: "First a ceasefire, then we will see". A very scary challenge for all our citizens. Who are "you"? Are your children dying? Are they dying there? Are your homes being destroyed? What are you talking about? Who are "you"?" the President said.
Zelenskyy said that the ceasefire in Crimea and Donbas ended with preparations for a full-scale russian invasion.
"This suggests that a ceasefire, when there are no more security guarantees for Ukraine, in which we really believe - are not just rhetorical, but in which we believe, because they do exist, so: such a ceasefire is preparation for the continuation of the occupation of Ukraine and the destruction of our independence and sovereignty. This is what a ceasefire is today," Zelenskyy emphasized.
Zelenskyy called the leaders of countries that "know war only from books", who spoke, but never fought with putin, but call for negotiations, "sofa experts".
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on November 7, the representative of the U.S. Department of State, Matthew Miller, said that the United States will support the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, if he is ready for negotiations with the aggressor country russia.
