Great Britain announces the largest package of sanctions against russia since May 2023: against defense industry and mercenaries

Today, November 7, Great Britain announced the introduction of new large-scale sanctions against the russian military-industrial complex and russian-backed mercenary groups, in particular against the African Corps.

This was announced by the British government.

So, the country announced 56 new sanctions in its largest package against russia since May 2023.

"Today's actions interrupt the supply of vital equipment to putin's war machine and are aimed at combating russia's malicious activities around the world by exposing the corrupt activities of russian puppet military groups in Africa," the statement said.

It is emphasized that Britain has become the first G7 country to introduce direct sanctions against the russian-backed mercenary group African Corps, responsible for the threat to stability and security in all of Africa.

The country also announced the introduction of new sanctions against the russian military-industrial complex, which "will further limit the supply of vital military equipment that putin desperately needs for his illegal war in Ukraine."

In addition, new targets include suppliers supporting russian military production, russian-backed mercenary groups operating in sub-Saharan Africa, and a GRU agent involved in the use of the Novichok nerve agent in Salisbury.

"Today's action targets companies located in China, Turkey and Central Asia that supply and manufacture goods, including machine tools, microelectronics and components for drones, which are needed by russia to support its illegal invasion of Ukraine," the British government said.

The sanctions package also targets 3 private mercenary groups linked to the Kremlin, including the African Corps, and 11 individuals linked to russian puppets: "These individuals have direct ties to the Kremlin, threaten peace and security in Libya, Mali and the Central African Republic, and are involved in widespread human rights violations across the continent."

Thus, the new list of sanctions, the full version of which with all names can be viewed on the website of the British government, applies to:

  • 28 suppliers of machine tools, microelectronics, components for drones, ball bearings and other goods for the russian military-industrial complex;
  • 4 persons who, since the invasion, have benefited in key sectors for the russian state;
  • 5 people who supported the supply of goods for the russian military-industrial complex;
  • 1 person connected with the financial system of russia;
  • 7 persons associated with private groups of mercenaries with ties to the Kremlin;
  • 3 individuals associated with private Kremlin-linked mercenary groups listed under the Central African Republic (Sanctions) (Withdrawal from the EU) Regulations 2019;
  • 1 person linked to private mercenary groups with links to the Kremlin listed under the Libya (Sanctions) (Withdrawal from the EU) Regulations 2020;

  • 1 private mercenary group linked to the Kremlin listed under the Libya (Sanctions) (Withdrawal from the EU) Regulations 2020;

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in the meantime, according to the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, three oil refineries in the aggressor country of russia partially stopped work because they could not complete planned repairs in October. This is related to sanctions.

Earlier in russia, there was a wave of theft of butter in supermarkets due to a 25.7% increase in the price of the product, and sanctions also played a role in this.
