British intelligence names reason for latest russian advances in western Donetsk Region

The long advance of the russian occupation army near Kurakhove of the Donetsk Region is connected with the loss of the city of Vuhledar by the Defense Forces of Ukraine in early October 2024.

This is stated in the intelligence review of the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain.

British intelligence noted that near Kurakhove, the russians managed to advance on several sections of the front 20 kilometers wide. During the past week, they advanced 9 kilometers.

It is emphasized that such achievements of the russians are connected with the withdrawal of the Ukrainian army from Vuhledar and the positions in the vicinity of this settlement.

British intelligence added that the capture of Selydove and Hirnyk by the russians creates conditions for a threat to Pokrovsk, the largest logistical center of the Ukrainian army in the west of the region.

It is reported that in order to maintain the rate of advancement, the russians are forced to maintain a favorable number of personnel.

"Despite heavy losses of personnel, russia continues to recruit a large number of military personnel to support its operations in southern Ukraine," the message reads.
