UzNews writes about this with reference to the court decision.
The man came to russia in May 2023, where he worked for some time.
In November 2023, he, as part of a group of individuals, decided to sign a contract with the Ministry of Defense of the russian federation and go to war against Ukraine.
Later, the defendant underwent military training on the territory of one of the bases of the russian army near the border with Finland. Together with other mercenaries, he learned how to handle weapons and the basics of combat.
The man ended up in Ukraine in February 2024. It is not clear in which areas of the front he participated in hostilities. It is known that he was later injured as a result of the explosion of a projectile thrown from a drone.
The man was evacuated to the Moscow Oblast, where he underwent treatment for some time. And in July of this year, he returned to Uzbekistan.
As the portal writes, during the court session, the man admitted his guilt. The court sentenced him to five years in a general regime colony.
It will be recalled that the authorities of Uzbekistan have repeatedly warned citizens of criminal responsibility for participating in hostilities in Ukraine on behalf of any of the parties to the conflict.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the russians are actively trying to recruit residents of the Central Asian country to participate in the war in Ukraine. For this, they use social networks and Internet advertising.
Thus, in Kazakhstan, advertisements recruiting men for the war against Ukraine were distributed by the government resources of the Sakhalin Oblast of the russian federation.
We also wrote that russia was recruiting among the inhabitants of the countries of the Balkan Peninsula.
In addition, the russians are recruiting soldiers among residents of African countries, promising them a monthly reward of USD 2,000 and the prospect of obtaining russian citizenship.
