According to the spokesman of the US Department of Defense, Major General Patrick Ryder, the deployment of up to 12,000 North Korean troops in the Kursk Oblast to support the russian military may affect the situation in the region.
He made this statement on Monday, November 4.
The representative of the US Department of Defense noted that the reaction of the russian military-political leadership to the beginning of the Kursk operation of the Ukrainian army in the first days was "very confused" in attempts to knock the Armed Forces of Ukraine out of the oblast.
"They haven't been able to push the Ukrainians very far. They've gotten some additional territory back, but nothing that we would classify as significant," Ryder said.
At the same time, he emphasized that the transfer of North Korean forces to the Kursk Oblast "from the point of view of combat capability can be of significant importance."
The Pentagon spokesman also noted that the outcome will depend on "how these forces are used, how they are integrated into russian command and control."
In addition, Ryder noted that Ukrainian soldiers who already have combat experience are likely to continue the operation in the Kursk Oblast, in particular to maintain the controlled territories.
"Well, we'll see. In the meantime, we continue to consult very closely with our allies and partners," he added.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that, according to Ukrainian intelligence, there are already 11,000 North Korean troops in the Kursk Oblast of the russian federation.
Meanwhile, the media found out what and how much North Korea receives from russia and, in particular, the monthly salary of the North Korean military in russia.
Meanwhile, the Center for Countering Disinformation reported that the Defense Forces of Ukraine inflicted the first casualties on servicemen of the North Korean army sent to participate in the war on the side of the aggressor country of russia.
And the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, explained what would happen if North Korean soldiers sent to russia were killed by Ukraine with weapons provided by the United States.
