We are starting to implement 5G - Fedorov

The fifth generation (5G) cellular radio communication system is beginning to be implemented in Ukraine.

The Vice Prime Minister for Innovations, Development of Education, Science and Technologies - Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov announced this in the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"We are launching a pilot 5G in Ukraine. The compatibility of 5G with military equipment is being tested in three cities. The pilot will last 2 years and will take place in two stages. During the tests, NKEK and the Ukrainian State Radio Frequency Center will check whether 5G equipment does not affect the operation of military networks," he informed.

Fedorov noted that 5G is capable of transmitting data 10 times faster than 4G, therefore it creates new opportunities for exchanging large volumes of information at ultra-high speeds.

"This is one of the key steps towards the full launch of 5G in Ukraine, which we plan to complete by 2030," he said.

He also reported that the government's resolution will provide greater flexibility for operators - the 2100 MHz frequency can now be used not only for 3G, but also for 2G or 4G technologies, and the termination of the use of the 694-862 MHz frequencies for analog and digital television will free them for mobile communication.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in May, Fedorov announced that 5G was launched in test mode for the first time in Ukraine.
