The recommendations of the European Commission regarding the United News telethon have been taken into account, but the state will stop supporting it after the end of martial law.
It was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications with reference to the statement of the Minister of Culture Mykola Tochytskyi, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
The Ministry of Culture notes that the European Commission positively assessed the Roadmap to support the restoration of a transparent and independent post-war media space after the end of martial law.
"We have already started the path of change: step by step we are ensuring every citizen's access to public information and actively involving the resources of international partners to support the recovery of Ukrainian media. The recommendations of the European Commission regarding the United News marathon are also taken into account. The state plans to stop supporting the marathon after the completion of martial law, focusing on the sustainable development of the media infrastructure. After all, our goal is to create a space for truth and freedom of speech, and this work continues every day," Tochytskyi emphasized.
It is noted that the draft law on the state budget for 2025 provides for UAH 2.2 billion to finance the public broadcaster, which fully corresponds to its request.
Tochytskyi emphasized that the National Public Television and Radio Company works on a politically neutral basis.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the European Commission advised to review the expediency of the United News telethon and doubted that it is the best platform for a free exchange of opinions.
In May, the Ministry of Culture announced the transformation of the telethon.
