Ukraine asked Poland to shoot down russian missiles in order to protect a gas storage facility in the city of Stryi, Lviv Region.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this during a meeting with the heads of territorial communities of the Zakarpattia Region.
"We have good-neighborly relations with Poland. There are various challenges, we constantly asked them to shoot down missiles heading in the direction of Poland. There we have Stryi, gas storages, the country depends on this gas supply, our life, especially in winter," he said.
The head of state noted that Ukraine does not have a sufficient number of air defense systems, so it asked Poland to protect the gas storage facility.
"What about the Poles? Are they shooting down? No. The Poles said they are ready to shoot down if they are not alone in this decision, if NATO supports them," the President added.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on September 2, t Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said that Warsaw has to shoot down russian missiles in the sky over Ukraine without waiting for them to fly into Polish airspace.
In response, Polish Foreign Ministry spokesman Paweł Wroński said that Sikorski's words were his personal opinion.
We will remind you that on the night of August 25-26, a russian kamikaze drone flew into the airspace of Poland.
