Poland refuses to hand over weapons purchased in South Korea to Ukraine

The President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, said that he refused to hand over to Ukraine weapons purchased from South Korea "for billions of zlotys".

His words are quoted by the Polish publication RMF24 on Friday, October 25.

Journalists asked Duda, who is on a visit to South Korea, whether the scenario of transferring South Korean weapons to Ukraine is under consideration, provided that the allies replenish Polish stocks.

"These weapons must serve the security of Poland. Ladies and gentlemen, there is no foreseeable scenario in which we hand over to someone weapons that were recently bought for billions of zlotys from the pockets of our taxpayers. These weapons must serve the security and defense of the Republic of Poland," said Duda.

The President of Poland confirmed that Ukrainian partners asked him about the possibility of transferring weapons.

"My answer was unequivocal - there is no way, as long as I am the president, that we would give someone the weapons that we bought in recent years to strengthen the security of the Republic of Poland for billions of dollars from our collective pockets, because these are the pockets of taxpayers," emphasized Duda.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on October 15, Polish Minister of Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said that Poland has transferred military equipment worth more than PLN 15 billion to Ukraine, and is also forming the "Ukrainian Legion".

On September 27, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that a "breakthrough" in problematic historical issues between Poland and Ukraine should not happen as a result of "blackmail".

In July, the Minister of Defense of Poland Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that Ukraine's accession to the EU is possible only after the "Volyn issue" is resolved.
