Polish Defense Minister states that Ukraine's accession to EU possible only after resolution of the Volyn issue

The Minister of Defense of Poland, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, believes that misunderstandings between Ukraine and Poland arise "due to unresolved historical issues." First of all, the "Volyn issue" must be resolved, Polsat News reports.

According to the politician, Ukraine should be given an ultimatum. And without a "resolution of the Volyn issue" they will not be allowed to join the European Union.

At the same time, Kosiniak-Kamysz said that "the end of the war means only the victory of Ukraine."

"Any other option remains a direct threat of war for Poland," he said

As earlier reported, in Poland, the Volyn tragedy is commemorated, and the Polish Diet declares that Polish-Ukrainian reconciliation should include "recognition of guilt and commemoration of the victims."

The Volyn tragedy is the mutual ethnic cleansing of the conflicting Polish and Ukrainian populations, carried out by the Ukrainian Insurgent Army subordinated to the OUN, military units of the OUN, and the Polish Home Army with the participation of Polish battalions of the Schutzmannschaft (107, 202), Soviet partisans and Ukrainian and of the Polish civilian population in 1943 during the Second World War in Volyn.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in 2018, Andrzej Duda called the Volyn tragedy "genocide" and "ethnic cleansing."
