The military of the aggressor country of the russian federation killed four soldiers of the National Guard of Ukraine (NGU), who were captured during the assaults near the town of Selydove (Donetsk Region).
This is stated in the notification of the Prosecutor General's Office.
As reported, on October 6, 2024, 4 military servicemen of the NGU performed service and combat tasks at positions near Selydove. Around 1:00 p.m., the occupation forces launched an assault on the fortifications, during which they captured Ukrainian soldiers. Subsequently, representatives of the armed forces of the aggressor country of the russian federation recorded the interrogation of the wounded, unarmed National Guardsmen on video.
The next day, the Defense Forces regained lost positions and, during search operations, discovered the bodies of the killed Ukrainian servicemen.
The Prosecutor General's Office emphasized that the killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and qualifies as a grave international crime.
"Under the procedural guidance of the Donetsk regional prosecutor's office, a pre-trial investigation has been started in criminal proceedings on the fact of violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the Prosecutor General's Office added.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, stated that, in general, it is known about more than 100 servicemen of the Defense Forces, who were executed by the aggressor state of russia after being captured. He emphasized that law enforcement agencies are doing everything possible to record such crimes.
Also, according to the Institute for the Study of War, the russian occupation army has recently increased the number of executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war.
