Russia recently increased number of executions of Ukrainian POWs - ISW

The russian occupiers have recently increased the number of executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs), and also continue to use chemical weapons, including chloropicrin and riot control agents, in violation of the Chemical Weapons Convention, which russia signed.

This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

"Russian troops continue to systematically commit war crimes, including the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war and the use of chemical weapons," the report says.

Thus, Ukraine reported that on October 18, russian troops executed two unarmed Ukrainian prisoners of war near Selydove, Donetsk Region, by shooting them tied up at point blank range.

According to ISW, russian forces have recently increased the number of systematic executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war, which is a violation of the Geneva Convention on Prisoners of War, which prohibits the inhumane treatment of prisoners of war and their execution.

In addition, a russian media blogger published a video and openly stated on October 20 that russian troops are using chlorpicrin (a lung-damaging pesticide) against Ukrainian troops.

The US Department of State announced on May 1 that it had determined that russian forces were using chloropicrin and riot control agents (RCAs) in violation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), to which russia is a signatory.

It is noted that Ukrainian officials previously reported that russian troops are increasingly equipping grenades with chloropicrin.

"The apparent systematic commission of war crimes across theaters of operations demonstrates that russian forces continue to operate at a low level of discipline, and that russian field commanders are doing nothing to prevent, or perhaps even encourage, their subordinates to engage in such criminal behavior," the ISW sums up.

Also, analysts stressed, there is no evidence that russia is holding russian personnel accountable for the reported violations of the laws of war.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, it is known about more than 100 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who were executed by the aggressor state of russia after being captured by it. Ukrainian law enforcement agencies do everything possible to record such crimes.

Earlier, on September 6, in the territory of the village of New York of the Donetsk Region, the russian invaders shot a captured soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who was probably wounded and lying on the ground without a weapon.
