Staff’s energy meeting on preparation for winter decides to strengthen air defense in border and front-line regions

On Tuesday, October 15, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief on energy issues regarding comprehensive preparation for winter, at which, in particular, it was decided to strengthen air defense in the border and front-line regions.

Zelenskyy announced this on his Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"Staff’s energy meeting. Comprehensive preparation for winter. Reports of all those involved in the process: Naftogaz, Ukrenergo, ministries of energy, interior affairs, development of communities and territories, Air Forces, regional military administrations. All levels of energy infrastructure protection: engineering, with the means of electronic warfare and air defense forces. Our aviation will also take an active role in strengthening air defense in the border and frontline regions," he said.

Zelenskyy added that the Ministry of Interior Affairs presented a plan of measures to respond to shelling and to promptly repair damage at the Staff’s meeting.

The President also noted that work is underway to create a decentralized network of cogeneration plants.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated during a government meeting that gas reserves in underground storage facilities (UGS) as of October 15 amount to 12.2 billion cubic meters, at the same time, 3.1 million tons of coal have been accumulated in the warehouses, which is enough to get through the winter.

He emphasized that this heating season, like the previous one, Ukraine plans to use its own gas production.

Shmyhal added that all 9 NPP power units under the control of Ukraine are currently working, and they will provide the main volume of electricity generation in the heating season.
