The incident with Israeli troops shelling positions of the UN Interim Force in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL) is a violation of international humanitarian law and a UN Security Council resolution.
This is indicated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on Friday, October 11.
"Ukraine is concerned about the October 10 shelling by Israeli troops of the positions of the UN Interim Force in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL), which injured representatives of the international mission. This incident is a serious violation of international humanitarian law and UN Security Council Resolution No. 1701 of 2006," the statement reads.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on all parties to the conflict to respect the immunity of UN agencies and their representatives, as well as to guarantee full security.
Recall that the Reuters agency, referring to the UNIFIL statement, reported the wounding of two UN peacekeepers as a result of two explosions near a watchtower in southern Lebanon. UNIFIL said in a statement that this was a "serious development".
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on October 4, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that an Israeli airstrike had killed one of the leaders of the Hamas paramilitary group in the West Bank of the Jordan River.
On October 1, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that missiles had been launched from Iran towards Israel.
Recall that on September 26, the Israeli authorities rejected the U.S. plan to cease fire in Lebanon.
