Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha announced Ukraine's readiness to discuss the issue of the Volyn tragedy.
He stated this during the Warsaw Security Forum, Radio Svoboda reports.
"We have enough political will and diplomatic skills to resolve any, including the most difficult, issues, including with our closest allies and friends, the Poles. We will talk about this topic today," Sybiha said.
What is the Volyn tragedy
During the Second World War, various partisan groups operated in the German-occupied territory of Ukraine, including the Ukrainian Insurgent Army and the Polish Home Army. They mainly conducted hostilities in Volyn. Both sides carried out ethnic cleansing, justifying their actions as revenge for repressions and murders. According to Polish data, at least 35,000 Poles were killed. According to Ukrainian data, the number of killed Ukrainians is from 9,000 to 10,000.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on July 24, Polish Minister of Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that misunderstandings between Ukraine and Poland arise "due to unresolved historical issues."
On September 13, Poland announced its readiness to raise again the topic of exhumation of the victims of the Volyn tragedy during the next visit of its representatives to Ukraine. There they call to "find a solution" - otherwise the country "will take tougher measures."
