Energy Commission to slightly increase marginal prices for electricity for businesses

The National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Utilities (Energy Commission) intends to increase the maximum limit prices for the hours from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. by 23.2% on the day-ahead market (DAM) and the intraday market (IDM) by 23.2%, from UAH 5,600 to UAH 6,900 per MWh.

This is stated in the message of the Energy Commission, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"At its meeting on October 1, the regulator made a decision to approve the draft resolution of the Energy Commission "On limit prices on the day-ahead market, intraday market and balancing market". Thus, the Commission started the regulatory procedure for revising the limit prices on the relevant segments of the electricity market. The procedure, in particular, provides for open discussions, during which all interested participants in the electricity market will have the opportunity to submit their proposals and comments," the message reads.

According to the report, the revision of the limit prices on the electricity market is due to the need to ensure the conditions for the commercial import of electricity from European countries in order to cover a possible power deficit in the autumn-winter period during russian terrorist attacks on the power system.

In particular, according to the draft resolution of the Energy Commission, based on the results of the monitoring of the day-ahead market of European countries for June-September 2024, it was established that at certain hours of the day, the actual electricity prices in the EU countries significantly exceed the limit prices established on the Ukrainian electricity market.

"In order to balance the energy system and avoid disconnection of consumers, it is necessary to involve the import of electricity, which in turn requires bringing prices on the electricity markets of Ukraine into line and will allow us to use the opportunities of commercial imports and avoid price fluctuations in Ukraine in relation to importing countries," the message says.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, since May 31, the Energy Commission has increased the maximum prices for electricity for businesses.
