Before meeting with Zelenskyy, Trump refused to answer whether Ukraine should cede territory to russia

On the eve of the meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the former U.S. president did not give a direct answer to the question of whether Ukraine should cede territory to russia.

This is reported by The Guardian.

So, late on Thursday evening, Donald Trump told reporters that he would meet with Zelenskyy at Trump Tower in New York on Friday morning.

This became known after the U.S. presidential candidate from the Democratic Party, Kamala Harris, described the policy of the Trump campaign to end the war with russia as "proposals of surrender”. Trump dismissed Harris' criticism and insisted he only wanted to stop the "horror show that's gone on."

It said when asked if Ukraine should give up the territories, Trump was non-committal, saying: "Let's get some peace … We need peace. We need to stop the death and destruction."

His running mate, JD Vance, has previously suggested that russia could keep the Ukrainian lands it occupies and create a demilitarized zone with a well-fortified front line to prevent another russian invasion.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump published a letter in which the Ukrainian president asks him for a personal meeting.

In addition, Zelenskyy's visit to the U.S. turned into a loud scandal, due to which the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, appealed to the President of Ukraine with a demand to immediately dismiss the ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S., Oksana Markarova, due to alleged interference in the American election.

The speaker accused Markarova of having organized Zelenskyy's visit to a plant in Pennsylvania where weapons are produced for Ukraine. Zelenskyy was accompanied by representatives of the Democratic Party, but no Republicans were invited. Johnson said that Zelenskyy's visit was "clearly a partisan campaign event designed to help Democrats and is clearly election interference.”
