US running out of arms supplies for Ukraine – CNN

The stocks of weapons and equipment that the Pentagon is ready to send to Ukraine have decreased. As a result, U.S. military aid packages have been smaller in recent months.

It was reported by CNN on Tuesday, September 17, citing two American officials.

This aid shortfall means U.S. President Joe Biden's administration has USD 6 billion to arm and equip Ukraine, but the Pentagon lacks supplies to send to the warring country.

“It’s about the stockpiles we have on our shelves, what [the Ukrainians] are asking for, and whether we can meet those requests with what we currently have” without impacting readiness, one of the officials said.

American arms manufacturers are trying to meet the huge demand for weapons created by russian aggression against Ukraine. CNN writes that before the war in Ukraine, the U.S. produced approximately 15,000 155mm artillery shells per month, and with the opening of new factories and production lines, this figure increased to 40,000 shells per month. But the Pentagon will still need more than a year to produce 100,000 shells every month.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on September 7, the U.S. Department of Defense announced a new aid package to Ukraine worth USD 250 million.

On August 23, the U.S. Department of Defense announced the provision of additional security assistance to Ukraine.

On July 29, the U.S. Department of Defense announced additional security assistance to meet Ukraine's critical security and defense needs.
