President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in his address.
"Received preliminary reports on the russian attack on Poltava. According to the information currently available, two ballistic missiles. Hits on the territory of an educational institution and a nearby hospital. One of the buildings of the Institute of Communication was partially destroyed. People were buried under the rubble. Many were rescued. More than 180 people were wounded. Unfortunately, mane people were killed. So far, we know about 41 people killed. My condolences to all relatives and friends," he said.
The president added that an investigation into what had happened began. All necessary services are involved in the rescue operation.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine said that the russians launched two ballistic missiles at Poltava.
"The time interval between the alarm and the hit of the deadly rockets was so short that it caught people at the moment of evacuation to the bomb shelter. One of the buildings of the institute was partially destroyed, many people got under the rubble. Thanks to the coordinated work of rescuers and medics, 25 people were saved, of which 11 were unblocked from under the rubble," the department said.
Currently, rescuers continue their work.
The Ministry of Defense was urged to trust only official sources of information. Any speculation on this tragedy is unacceptable.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on November 6, the 128th Separate Zakarpattia Mountain Assault Brigade confirmed that 19 soldiers were killed by a russian attack on November 3 in a front-line village in the Zaporizhzhia Region. They were hit while lining up.
On November 5, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that criminal proceedings had been registered over the killing of soldiers of the 128th Separate Zakarpattia Mountain Assault Brigade by a missile attack by the aggressor state of russia.
