Russians announce completion of tests of 3-ton aerial bomb and new universal planning and correction module with increased range - ISW

The russians announced the completion of tests of a new 3,000-kilogram guided aerial bomb and the introduction into service of new universal planning and correction modules (UPCM) with increased range.

This is stated in a report by analysts of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

ISW analysts drew attention to the fact that on September 2, russian military bloggers reported the alleged completion of tests of the new FAB-3000M54 aerial bomb.

Telegram channel Aviahub wrote that serial tests of this bomb are coming to an end and soon they will allegedly begin to be used by aviation regiments of the russian army.

According to the channel, russian bomber regiments allegedly received a modernized version of the UPCM, which was called the UMPK-PD (PD - increased range).

The channel claims that the new module received an enlarged wing. This allegedly made it possible to increase the range of use of guided aerial bombs.

There is currently no official information about both the FAB-3000M54 bomb and the UPCM modification.

We will remind you that earlier this year the Militarnyi portal wrote that the russians resumed the production of FAB-3000 aerial bombs.

These aerial bombs were adopted by the USSR Armed Forces as early as 1946. This bomb has a cast body weighing 1,600 kilograms and an explosive charge weighing 1,400 kilograms.

The bomb was designed to destroy concrete fortifications, industrial structures and dams.

The carrier of FAB-3000 aerial bombs is the Tu-22M3 strategic bomber.

Even then, Militarnyi drew attention to the fact that the reason for the resumption of production of the FAB-3000 remained unknown, because in order to use these bombs, the russians would have to endanger the Tu-22M3 bombers.

Probably, the new UPCM module will allow the Tu-22M3 to drop bombs without flying into the range of Ukrainian air defense systems.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on September 2, the russian occupiers used a hybrid of missile and aerial bomb for the first time during the shelling of Kharkiv.

We will remind you that the day before, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that during the last week of August, the russians dropped 780 aerial bombs on Ukraine.

We also wrote that in the spring of 2024, russia received high-precision aerial bombs from Iran.
