Overnight into Friday, August 30, the city of Sumy was hit by an airstrike by the army of the aggressor country of the russian federation. As a result of the enemy attack, there was a fire and smoke in the air is recorded, there are also casualties.
This is reported by the Sumy Regional Military Administration.
"Tonight, the enemy carried out an airstrike on the civilian infrastructure of the city of Sumy, as a result of which a fire broke out," the Regional Military Administration reported.
The administration also noted that, as a result, the air is smoky in some neighborhoods of the city.
"Therefore, the residents of the city are requested to close the windows and doors tightly and, if possible, not to leave the premises until the consequences of the enemy attack have been completely eliminated," the Regional Military Administration said in a statement.
Oleksii Drozdenko, the head of the Sumy City Military Administration, clarified that residents of the Veretenivka, Annivka and Kovpaka districts are being asked not to open the windows due to possible smoke inhalation.
The Regional Military Administration also informed that there were casualties as a result of the enemy strike. And all emergency and rescue services are working on the liquidation of the consequences, and data on the consequences are currently being clarified.
As the head of the City Military Administration said, the russian airstrike hit the northern part of the city of Sumy.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, since the beginning of summer, the aggressor country of the russian federation has carried out more than 2,000 strikes on the territory of the Sumy Region. Because of this, the population of 183 settlements is subject to evacuation.
The russian federation has intensified shelling of areas of the Sumy Region bordering russia's Belgorod Oblast.
