More than 95% of owners of Ukrainian Eurobonds have supported Ukraine's proposal for debt restructuring, which will save USD 11.4 billion on debt servicing.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this on his Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"We are taking another significant step towards strengthening Ukraine's financial stability. More than 95% of Ukrainian Eurobond owners supported our debt restructuring proposal, prepared by the Ministry of Finance in cooperation with the Committee of Eurobond Owners. This decision will save USD 11.4 billion on debt servicing in the next three years which will strengthen our budget and make it possible to better finance defense," he said.
In turn, the Ministry of Finance reported on the Telegram channel that more than 97% of Eurobond owners supported the agreement on the restructuring of Ukraine's external commercial debt, the agreement will allow Ukraine to save USD 11.4 billion on debt servicing over the next three years and USD 22.75 billion by 2033.
Funds saved under martial law will be directed to finance the security and defense sector.
Now the restructuring process is moving to the final stage - to the settlement phase. Settlement of the agreement is expected to take place on August 30.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in June Finance Minister Serhii Marchenko announced that Ukraine is conducting negotiations on the restructuring and partial write-off of the state debt.
Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada allowed the Cabinet of Ministers to suspend payments on the external state debt until October 2024.
