Latvia strengthens border control over goods from russia and Belarus

From August 25, the Food and Veterinary Service of Latvia will begin increased control of various russian and Belarusian goods at border control points.

Delfi writes about it.

Enhanced checks are carried out to limit risks to human and animal health and, in the case of genetically modified organisms, to the environment.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the decision to strengthen control was made by order of the chief food and veterinary inspector based on the evaluation of control results for the period from April 1 to July 31, 2024.

These results showed that, as before, consignments of food and fodder of russian and Belarusian origin continue to arrive for inspection, while concerns about their harmlessness persist, especially at the beginning of the new harvest season.

Enhanced control measures will be in effect until February 23, 2025.

We will remind you that earlier Latvia prepared the largest batch of drones for Ukraine.
