Successful strikes by the Defense Forces of Ukraine against the targets of the russian army in the occupied Crimea forced the russians to transfer their latest S-500 air defense systems to the peninsula.
Bloomberg reported this with reference to the report of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) of the U.S. Department of Defense.
The document refers to a series of successful Ukrainian attacks on the targets of the russian army using American ATACMS ballistic missiles.
These are strikes on air defense systems, a corvette of the Black Sea Fleet of the russian federation in Sevastopol, ammunition storage areas and parked military helicopters of the russian army.
The report emphasizes that the use of ATACMS missiles by the Ukrainian military forced the russians to strengthen the air defense of their occupied Crimea.
For these purposes, the newest russian S-500 anti-aircraft systems were transferred to the peninsula. The russians probably decided to use them to replace the S-400 complexes destroyed or damaged as a result of a series of Ukrainian attacks.
DIA believes that this is russia's attempt to ensure adequate air defense of Crimea.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Ukraine was unable to strike the Malyshevo airfield, where russian Su-34 bombers are based, because the U.S. did not give permission to use ATACMS missiles.
Recall that in May of this year, against the background of the russian offensive in the north of the Kharkiv Region, the U.S. allowed Ukraine to use American weapons for strikes on the territory of the russian federation.
Later, the American media found out that this permission does not apply to ATACMS missiles, which would allow Ukraine to hit targets at a distance of 300 kilometers.
