In the Ternopil Region, they recorded an excess of chlorine in the atmospheric air by 4-10 times and gave recommendations to residents on how to act in such a situation.
This was reported by the director general of the Ternopil Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Oksana Chaychuk, during a briefing in the Regional Military Administration.
Thus, Chaychuk reported that, since there is a large amount of chemical substances in the emissions of the combustion of oil products, it is necessary to constantly monitor. According to the latest data, an excess of chlorine in the air is recorded.
"With a norm of 0.1 milligrams per cubic meter, there is an excess of 0.4 to 1.01. From 4 to 10 times in atmospheric air," she informed.
Chaychuk explained that chlorine is a heavy chemical that falls to the bottom. According to her, at first - when it was released into the atmosphere - it was impossible to detect it, because it was on the torch in the high layers of the atmosphere, and now it is decreasing.
"In order to protect the health of residents, we give recommendations that should be followed. The first priority is to limit long stays in the fresh air. It is advisable to be in a closed room, closing the attic and ventilation passages, to limit the access of atmospheric air," she said.
Also, Chaychuk noted, if there is a recuperator, it is advisable to use it. In addition, it is desirable to hang the windows and doors with wet sheets so that chlorine, which is in the atmospheric air, binds with water and does not enter the room.
If the children are in kindergartens, it is recommended to bring them to the premises of the institution and follow the above recommendations. If possible, children should be taken from kindergarten and left at home until special recommendations.
It is also recommended to limit your stay on water bodies. At the same time, you should drink a lot of water - if such substances get into the body, they should be excreted with liquid.
Symptoms of chlorine poisoning:
- redness of the mucous membranes, primarily of the eyes;
- dryness of mucous membranes and sore throat;
- hoarseness of voice, aphonia;
- there may be a decrease in blood pressure and tachycardia.
In case of symptoms, you should seek medical help.
Chaychuk noted that the situation remains under control, the agencies will continue to promptly inform residents.
